About
Bar Mood was established in September, 2017 and situated in the east side of Taipei city center, which is the most prosperous commercial district. Apart from this, there are many colorful boutiques selling clothing and accessories as well as various street food and restaurants that are worth your while in the area.
Initially as you walk into Bar Mood, you may find the interior kind of cold or stand-offish. This is to emulate the many offices in the business district. In this space, you can enjoy a quick bite and drink standing.
You must open sliding doors and walk through in order to enter the next space. Once you have entered, it is as if you have entered a parallel universe. The colors are darker, and there are more wooden tones. What makes this space especially special is that every chair, every sofa is fabricated by my parents, who have been making furniture for over 50 years. My hope is that everybody who comes here can relax, be comfortable and have an enjoyable night.
The floral centerpiece is the work of an acclaimed Taiwanese floral artist, and is changed on a weekly basis. The aim is to incorporate the seasonal beauty of Taiwanese nature into our space, so everyone who visits Bar Mood can feel the force of nature.
In the 16th century, the Portuguese referred to Taiwan as Formosa — Island of Beauty, and I do believe that this land is full of beauty — in the form of flowers, herbs, botanicals, fruits and spices. They all tell a story of this land, and I want to share those stories with all who come to Bar Mood.
Cocktails may be a thing of the West, but Asian bartenders have been trying different ways of adding an "Oriental Touch" and making things their own. At Bar Mood, we do this by juxtaposing a Classic Western ingredient alongside a similar, related one that is closer to home, such as placing the Western pepper next to the makauy pepper that is native to our land. Our menus are never changed. Good things from the past are kept, and new items are added to ensure diversity.
We are also always looking for new ways to extract and expand flavors. Traditional methods as well as new technology allow us to push the limits, while maintaining consistency and save you waiting time. We seek to enhance your experience with us through these efforts on things you do not see.
Through constant experimentation and exploration, we keep reinventing, creating, and refining. We are learning. We are expanding. We are innovating. Still, we stay true to ourselves.
